About PVPIT College Of Engineering

Padmabhooshan Dr. Vasantraodada Patil, was a man of great vision and foresight. He was the leader of common people and the Father of Co-operative movement and Agro industrial Society in Maharashtra. He is the Founder of "Shetkari Shahkari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd. Sangli", Shetkari Sahakari Bank, Vasantdada Market, Industrial Estate, Processing Industries, and Shetakri Shikshan Mandal, Pad. Vasantraodada Patil Institute of Technology, Vasantdada Prathisthan and many other societies. Other Parts of Maharashtra also flourished under his great noble and dynamic leadership. As the CHIEF MINISTER OF MAHARASHTRA, he was very successful. As the GENERAL SECRETARY OF ALL INDIA CONGRESS PARTY and then as GOVERNOR OF RAJASTHAN, he became a popular national leader. For his distinguished career and selfless service to the society, he was awarded "PADMABHOOSHAN" by the Government of India and DOCTORATE Degree by Pune University.

History

Before 1983, there were very few Engineering and Technological Institutes in Maharashtra. Large number of eligible students sought admission to these Institutions, but they were deprived of chances in Engineering. Besides emphasis was mainly on Conventional courses like, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engg. Hon'ble, Vasantraodada Patil, realised the need of Engineering education in several specialized and newly emerging areas for industrial development in India and in Maharashtra.

In 1983, Padmabhooshan Dr. Vasantraodada Patil, then Chief Minister, proclaimed new strategies and implemented them by permitting educational societies to establish new Engineering Colleges and Polytechnics located evenly in all regions of the State, to offer education in unconventional but newly emerging subjects. Thus, facilities for higher technical education were made available even at the rural and backward areas have been taking advantage of these opportunities to shape their future career in Engineering.

In the year 1983, "Shetkari Shikshan Mandal, Sangli," (S.S.M.) was established. It is sponsored and run by "Vasantdada Shetkari Shahkari Sakhar Karkhana Limited, Sangli," shareholders of this factory donated generously towards educational functions and patronised the Shetkari Shikshan Mandal, Sangli, for the implementation of the dynamic new educational policies of the Government of India and the State Government of Maharashtra. OBJECTS

"Shetkari Shikshan Mandal, Sangli", (S.S.M.) has been established with the following objects:

i) To Provide trained and educated youths as manpower in put for technical development and projects in Maharashtra and India.

ii) To impart theoretical and practical technical education meeting high national standards set by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for Degree and Diploma in Engineering and Technology.

iii) To enable students to acquire necessary and sufficient practical experience in different laboratories and Production Centre established in the campus.

The S.S.M. is registered under Trust Act and also under Society Act of Government of Maharashtra. In the first year of its establishment, Mandal opened new era and gates of Engineering and Technology by starting "PADMABHOOSHAN VASANTRAODADA PATIL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY", to impart education leading towards Bachelor of Engineering Degree of Shivaji University, Kolhapur and towards Diploma in Engineering of Board of Technical Examinations, Govt. of Maharashtra. In the year 1985, Institution was shifted to its own premises at Budhgaon.

ASSETS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Shetkari Shikashan Mandal, acquired 31.2 acres of land in Budhgaon and built the campus for P.V.P. Instt. of Technology, and constructed infrastructure buildings and laboratories with other facilities like Hostel, Staff Quarters etc. Mandal has its own Printing Press, Bio-gas, Solar Water Heater and ecological developments are novelties in the assets. Mandal has spent nearly Rs. 6.00 Crores on the assets and developments.

FUTURE PLANS OF MANDAL

Administrative Buildings, Play-ground, Recreation centre, Library Buildings, Auditorium, Krida Sankul and Research and Consultancy cells are planned in the next development phase.

PADMABHOOSHAN VASANTRAODADA PATIL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, (P.V.P.I.T.):

RECOGNITION OF THE INSTITUTION

P.V.P.I.T. has been recognised by the following authorities:

1) All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) recognised the Institution for the Degree courses and the Diploma courses offered by the Institution.

2) P.V.P.I.T. has been affiliated to the Shivaji (university, Kolhapur, for Degree courses. Degree for Bachelor of Engineering is awarded to the student passing-out B.E. Degree examination.

3) Board of Technical Examinations (B.T.E.), Government of Maharashtra, has recognised Diploma courses. Board conducts examination and awards Diploma in Engineering to the student passing-out final year Diploma examination.

4) P.V.P.I.T. has been recognised by Director of Technical Education and the Govt. of Maharashtra for both Degree and Diploma courses offered at P.V.P.I.T.

5) Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, Calcutta, has recognised the Institute. Students completing B.E. Degree in Chemical Engineering, are eligible for the becoming Associate Member of the Chartered Institute.

6) Degree holders from P.V.P.I.T. Are eligible for admission to M.E. or M.Tech. Degree at I.I.Ts. or at any other University in India or abroad.

7) I.S.T.E. has recognised the Institution as Member Institute and the Chapter of I.S.T.E. is activated at the Institution.

LOCATION

P.V.P.I.T. has been located at the village Budhgaon, only 10 kilometers from Sangli city. Sangli city has been connected to Broad Guage Railway line of the South Central Railway. It is on Bombay-Pune-Kolhapur or Pune-Bangalore Rail line.Miraj is the Railway junction close to Sangli city, the District place. Sangli-Miraj area is an industrially developed area. There are a number of big sugar factories, Textile mills. Engineering concerns, Electronic Industries established in the vicinity of Sangli. Number of industries are coming-up in one of the largest M.l.D.C. complex in Maharashtra at Miraj and Kupwad. Thus environment of Sangli is industrial. Budhgaon has moderate climate throughout the year and the annual rainfall is about 60-80 centimeters. Being away from the attraction of city life, it is the best place for learning.

PREAMBLE AND GENERAL IMPRESSION

P.V.P.I.T. has been recognised as one of the few best institutions established in last decade in the State of Maharashtra. The Institution has been developed to the standards and norms prescribed for Degree and Diploma courses by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New-Delhi.

The faculty at P.V.P.I.T. consists of qualified and experienced persons. Excellent results in examinations are due to devotion and commitment of staff members and due to good quality of teaching. P.V.P.I.T. has been the best seat of learning of Engineering and Technology. Students have topped in the merit list of the University.

The graduates and diploma holders of P.V.P.I.T. are gainfully employed. Some of them have proceeded for higher education in India and Abroad, some of them have become entrepreneurs. Teachers are also exposed to modern trends of developments. They are deputed for participating in Seminars, Conferences, Workshops at state and at National level. Faculty are also deputed or sponsored for higher education. Staff Quarters are provided at subsidised rates and essential staff is provided with free quarters.
