It was established in 1858, central college was one of the two constituent colleges initially fostered by madras university from 1906 till it was brought under the annals of mysore university in 1916. central college has witnessed a galaxy of scientists, including a few nobel laureates, deliberating during the two science congress's hosted in 1971 and 1987," siddappa pointed out. in fact, nobel laureate sir c.v. raman announced his research findings on the `scattering effects of light' from thecentral college gallery, which has been subsequently named as sir c.v. raman hall. the central college buildings were built around the time when attara kacheri, now the high court of karnataka, carlton house and cubbon park library were built. declared as heritage buildings, they were, however, not repaired. "the high court building was renovated by preserving the original architectural grandeur. we hired the same architects for thecentral college buildings," siddappa said. the newly constructed nss bhavan and cyber centre will also be inaugurated on the same day.
