About Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology
Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang was established in the year 1982 and managed directly by the Govt. of Orissa.Presently, the Institute is offering five Under Graduate Engineering courses in Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical and Metallurgical Engineering, Master in Computer Science & Application, two Post Graduate Engineering courses in Industrial Power Control and Drives, Environmental Science & Engineering and five Diploma Engineering courses in Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunication, Mechanical and Metallurgical Engineering.
So far the institute has produced 1730 Engg. Graduates, 240 Postgraduates and 1550 Diploma holders. Almost all of them are properly placed. Quite a good nos. of our alumni are excelling in their field across the world. Within a short span of two decades the institute has grown up to the National level academically. This is the first Govt. Engg. College in the state to have Accreditation from NBA (AICTE) because of its academic excellence.

Talcher, the coal city of Orissa, has been the place of strategic importance being the gateway of mineral rich Orissa state, having an enormous potential for development with seemingly inexhaustible natural resources. The city of Talcher is situated on the railway line connecting Bombay and Bhubaneswar about 150km from Bhubaneswar. The location of this institute is on the bank of river Brahmani at village Sarang in the vicinity of National Thermal Power Corporation,(Talcher Tharmal and Kaniha ) & various other power plants along with NALCO, Angul and MCL, Talcher area .
Hostels
Like all Engineering college/Institutes this institution is also wholly residential and provides hostel accommodation of all students. In exceptional cases a student subsequent to admission may be permitted on application in prescribed from to remain with his/her parents or natural guardian living in nearby place . Students permitted to stay as day - scholars are exempted fro m payment of mess charges and Electricity charges only and will be entitled for refund of the mess advance paid at the time of admission. All other dues will be collected from the day scholars also. However the student not provided with hostels accommodation by the institution will be exempted from all hostel dues except Hostels fund.
Accommodation has been arranged in the hostel as scheduled below.

2.Aryabhatta Bhawan(East Block/West Block) for 2nd year Degree and MCA students
3.Bhaskar Bhawan for 3rd year Degree Students
4.Agni Bhawan(East Block/West Block) for All Diploma Students
5.Surya Bhawan for All Final year Degree and MCA Students
6.Rohini Bhawan for All girls students(B.Tech/MCA/Diploma)
