Eligibility Criteria

  1. You should complete a Bachelor of Social Work or BSW degree from a reputed university. Some regular universities and almost all distance education universities do not restrict the bachelor's degree to social work only. In that case you just need to hold a bachelor's degree from any reputed college or university.
  2. Most universities have the cutoff of minimum 50% or above marks in the aggregate score of the undergraduate degree.

Overview of this course

This course is divided into a curriculum spanning 4 semesters or 2 years. In these 2 years you will learn about the various aspects of social work. You will be able to learn about the advent of our society over the past years. You will also learn about the procedures of social welfare in the domain of medical science. You will get to know about the various programs conducted by the government of India to promote hygiene in the society and cure various common diseases among the people. So, this course also includes some elements from History and Medical Science.

Future Job Opportunities

  1. You can join the public sector after completing a Master's Degree in Social Work or MSW. There are several government funded and private social welfare organizations working all over India. You have to be a part of social services like child and youth care. In such cases you will have to deal with cases of child abuse and child labor. If such cases are reported to you, you should investigate about them and initial police cases to solve the matters with immediate effect.
  2. You can also join organizations who look after the mental health of people. Such organizations will recruit you as interns. After years of experience you can become their official counselors.
  3. You can study a short term course on gerontology and become professional gerontologists in any private or government clinic. But to get promotions in those clinics, you must complete a postgraduate diploma in nursing management.
