Overview


B.E. or Bachelor of Engineering is an undergraduate degree awarded after 4-5 years of studying engineering. It helps you in getting a job as an engineer in a variety of fields and industries. Engineering is presently the most in demand field among the students in the country. Every year lakhs of students aspire to undergo a course in engineering, but only a certain fraction gets the opportunity to do so. Eligibility and course duration


Pass in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Math from a recognized board or university. Admissions are mostly through entrance exams like JEE Mains. High percentage of marks in 10+2 helps in getting admission.

Duration of most of the B.E. courses is four years.

B.E. courses are all divided into semesters. Each semester is of six months. The first two semesters are devoted to subjects common to all branches of engineering. Third semester onward, students concentrate more on subjects concerned with their stream. Diploma holders too can join laterally their respective branch of engineering. They are given some concession in the subjects they have to study and can mostly join from the 2nd year onward.

You can either directly go for a job in the private or the government sector, or can continue your education and undergo a postgraduate degree in engineering.
