Introduction to echo-cardiography
Echo-cardiography is the test used to create moving pictures of the heart using sound waves. It’s a sonogram of heart which takes 2-dimension or 3 dimensional pictures. Patients with heart problems are advised to take electrocardiography. It’s one of the routinely used test for diagnosing patients with heart diseases. The test is done for management and follows up of the cases for treatment of patient. The test provides useful information of the heart – shape, size, location, pumping capacity and tissue damage. An echo-cardiogram reveals the heart functioning like cardiac output, systole and diastolic functions. Echo-cardiogram determines whether chest pain is related to heart disease in a patient.
Eligibility for the course: The student should have completed degree in science from a recognised university. He/she must have an interest in conducting the electrocardiography and should posses the skills to view, analyse and report the pictures taken.
Additional Information about the course
Echo-cardiograph does not enter into body cavities nor does it break the skin. It’s devoid of side effects it does not cause harm to the patients. Echo-cardiograph y is done by cardiac sonographers, trained in echo-cardiography. The course imparts knowledge on anatomy and physiology of heart. The students learn the disorders of heart and the diseases that of the heart. The students would be trained in detecting the abnormalities of the heart. The study program covers classroom lectures, practical, laboratory and clinical experiences. An echo-cardiogram reveals the heart functioning like cardiac output, systole and diastolic functions. It also determines whether the chest pain is related to heart disease in a patient. The students would be exposed to operate the equipment to create images of heart and to draw the results. The concepts covered in the program are echo introduction and demonstrations of various tomography planes, congenital diseases, chest pain, signs of diseases, M module, Doppler and colour flow mapping , evaluation of LV function, systolic functions, diastolic dysfunction, mitral value evaluation, echo evaluation, abnormalities and diseases of right heart, basics of live case studies, advances in electrocardiography etc. The course prepares the students to become efficient professionals.
Jon Prospects: The qualified diploma holders find jobs in public and private hospitals, community health care centers, old ages homes. The students find lot of job prospects in the country and abroad. Echo cardiographers are regarded high as there is great demand due to increase in the ageing population.
