The Bachelor’s course comprises of eight semesters covering basic foundational subjects like physics, maths, applied chemistry, applied mechanics, engineering drawing etc., in the first year followed by the core subjects of Information Technology in the second and the third Almost all IT subjects will have theory along with practicals and students will become proficient with few programming languages. The subjects covered in the second and the third year may include databases and database management, microprocessors, software engineering, web designing, computer organization, computer network, multimedia etc. The students shall need to opt for elective/ specialization in the final year along with project with awareness of recent trends in information security, multimedia, data mining etc. Some colleges offer project +internship in the final semester. Overall, the graduate course provides a perfect blend of basic concepts, hands on practice and a project, which prepares the student to face the real world.
IT graduates are in demand in the global market and are employed in various roles, namely programmer, developer, analyst, tester, network or system administrator etc. The graduate engineer can be employed in IT enabled industries in various domains like IT firms, all types of enterprises, education, retail chains, hotels, public utilities, government organizations for designing, developing, implementing, deploying and maintaining or even enhancing their systems.
After completing this course the student may opt for higher education in either ME IT M.Tech. IT / MS either in India or abroad and move on further to carry out research and complete a doctoral program.
