A.M.I.E. is an abbreviation of "Associate Member of Institution of Engineers". It is a technical course having 2 parts- Section A and B. It is considered as a degree level course/ examination in the field of Engineering and is recognized by Central Govt., State Governments, UPSC and all other government organizations. This course is considered as equivalent to Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor of Engineering courses.
It has equal acceptance in government and private sector.
The main attraction for this course is because of its availability and acceptance even in distance education mode. As this does not need class rooms and lecturers, its fee structure is reasonable and anyone who is qualifying the eligibility criteria can become a graduate engineer through this course.
Further study options
After successfully qualified Section A, candidates must pursue Section B to complete the course.
The eligibility criteria for this course has 2 options-
- A candidate holding a 3 year Polytechnic Diploma in any of the branch of engineering can pursue this course. In this case, there is no restriction of marks obtained.
- A 12th passed candidate with Mathematics, physics and chemistry with minimum marks of 45% are also eligible for this course.
The difference between both the options is, candidates who pursue this after diploma are known as Diploma Stream Students/ Senior Technician members and the second one category candidates are known as Non-Diploma Stream Students/ Technician members.
There is no fixed duration for this course. Maximum duration of 6 years is allowed to pass both the sections of AIME. The regular dedicated student can complete this course in minimum duration of 4-6 semesters. There are many coaching centers are available for this course and distance learning candidates can join such centers for their studies.
This programme is designed by the largest multidisciplinary body of engineers- The Institution of Engineers (India). They prepare the syllabus, conduct the examinations and finally issue certificates to qualified candidates.
The main syllabus is very much similar to B.E or B.Tech course. The section A includes 10 subjects for 12th passed candidates and 4 subjects for Diploma holders. In this course, candidates study about fundamental to engineering and all the details theory and laboratory portion is included in Section B.
The job aspects for AIME qualified candidates are similar to any other engineer but a candidate must have qualified both the sections of this course.
