Genetic engineering is a part of biotechnology that concentrates on techniques and methods involving introduction of a foreign DNA into an organism’s genome. The idea is to alter the genome structure and thus improve upon the biological and chemical properties. This results in benefits in fields like agriculture, healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Among other things, the course comprises of topics like gene therapy, genome mapping, biology of vectors, recombinant DNA technology, microarray technology and stem cell biology.
