B.E. in Biomedical engineering is a branch of engineering focusing on engineering and biological sciences. The course has been designed and developed for the students who wish to work as an engineer in healthcare sector. The course utilizes the engineering disciplines and design principles to create and develop instruments and equipment to be used in medical stream.
To seek admission in Biomedical Engineering, the candidates must have passed 10+2 i.e. higher secondary examination or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics stream.
Anyone who has good analytical skill, communication skill, listening skill, problem solving skill, and mathematical computation skills can opt to study for the course.
The course is of 4 years divided in eight semesters.
What you will learn throughout the curriculum is broad aspects of fluid and solid mechanics, computer programming, circuit design, and bio-materials.You will learn to design mechanical systems and products, such as artificial internal organs, artificial devices that replace body parts. You will taught to design and develop machines for diagnosing medical problems. You will be given knowledge about the installation, adjustment, maintenance, and repairing process of bio-medical equipment. During the course you will learn how to evaluate the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of bio-medical equipment. Part from the theoretical knowledge, you will also be provided practical knowledge for better understanding of the subject.
After completion of the course, you may seek job in the biotechnology industry, in hospitals, in research facilities of educational and medical institutions, in teaching, and in government regulatory agencies. You may start your career as Bio-medical engineer, where you can work to supervise laboratories and equipment, build customized devices for health care or research needs such as diagnosis, therapy purpose. You may also join a sales department as a biomedical engineer.
One may also opt for higher studies such as M.E./ M.tech or Ph.D. courses.
