Bachelor in Arts is a Graduation degree. The specialization 'Tamil' mainly focuses on the Tamil language, its origin, uses, etc. The course is designed and implemented for candidates who are willing to learn about the Tamil language and literature. Candidates improve their understanding, reading, speaking and writing skills of this language.
The course covers are aspects of the language from its history, theater, poems, songs and many more.
The course can be pursued as regular as well as distance learning mode.

12th passed candidates are eligible for this course. The candidates with specialization in Tamil are preferred by some institutes.
Candidates holding Diploma in the same field from recognized institute are also eligible for this course.
For regular course, the duration is 3 years. These 3 years are divided into 6 semesters, each having 6 months duration. Candidates need to successfully qualify each semester for the completion of course.

Further study options
After graduation, the obvious option for further studies are Post graduation and in this specific case, it is M.A. in Tamil specialization. Candidates can also consider Post graduate Diploma with same specialization if they do not want to go for PG course.
Candidates interested in teaching can pursue their Bachelors in Education.
The course study about Tamil origin, its detailed history, Tamil poetry, theater, compositions, etc. Candidates get to learn about famous authors who have written in Tamil or translated novels in Tamil from other languages.
Being a language course, it has limited job options and that too in selected areas. Tamil is a language of Tamil Nadu hence most of the job opportunities can be found in that particular area. Most of the government job requires candidates having strong knowledge of Tamil language. They can work in schools, government offices like Post offices, banks, etc.
They can become a translator of new paper firms; they can be a journalist or an interpreter.
