Interested in geography? Looking for a course in surveying? Want to become a land surveyor and earn a living by exploring lands? Get here the details of the course Diploma Survey Engineering. Learn about the eligibility criteria, colleges and the prospects in survey engineering.

Course Name: Diploma Survey Engineering
Group:
Stream: Engineering
Course Category: Civil
Duration: 3 Years

Overview

Surveying is associated with the science of determining the spatial distance or angles between a three dimensional set of points. Surveyors measure almost anything, in the land and in the sky. By using the principles of mathematics, specialized equipment and technology, they measure and map the surrounding environment. The purpose of surveying is to establish ownership of lands by defining their boundaries whether in the countryside or in cities and towns. From landscaping to division of lands and final construction of roads, land surveying plays a very important role in the development of towns and cities. By collecting and analyzing the information thus collected by mapping the earth and even the sea floor, land surveyors help manage our land, water and other natural resources.

Eligibility and course duration

Minimum qualification required is pass in class 10th. The duration of this diploma course is 3 years.

More about the course

The aim of this course is to equip you with the necessary practical skills to work as a land surveyor. The skills learned, help you in collecting spatial data to be used for civil engineering jobs like road construction, laying of railway tracks, demarcating land boundaries, construction of buildings, tunnels and mining explorations. The course also makes you skilled in operating sophisticated equipment associated with surveying. The main equipment associated with surveying is robotic total station, also known as electronic theodolite. Some other equipment used are: 3D scanner, GPS receivers, retro-reflectors, radios, drones and surveying software. In recent years sophisticated computer software like AutoCAD are being used for mapping the measurements. The course gives you an understanding of mathematical principles like 3D geometry, trigonometry, regression analysis and also concepts on physics, engineering, programming and law.

Job opportunities

For a surveyor, there are lot of opportunities because of the enhanced economic and construction activity. With advancement in technology, surveying and mapping of terrains has now grown into geomatics. Instead of manual methods, these days one uses electronic equipment, global positioning systems, satellite receivers and computer software for mapping natural or man-made structures. This has resulted in growth opportunities in the field and as a geomatic technologist, one has a high demand. For employment you can get into companies that are into surveying and mapping, engineering consultancies, mining companies, public utility works, municipalities, telecommunication, infrastructure, highway and railway works, , both in the public and private sector. You can even materialize your diploma into an engineering degree.
