With the rapid growth in the population and our cities expanding, the role of urban engineering and planning too has gained in significance. Land in the cities and towns are scarce and our highways are already chock-a-block with traffic. It’s for the urban engineers to plan and deal with issues concerning highway planning, highway safety and transport management. With the government paying more focus on infrastructure development, the task of building roads and highways is on full steam. This creates lot of opportunities for urban engineers who are into this kind of work. Though there are various roles for an urban engineer, one of their prime responsibility is to ease congestion in our roads and highways by systematic management of traffic.
