More about the M.Phil program
The two year program consists of course work, independent research and a dissertation. As part of the course work the students have to appear for certain term papers and written exam. The research paper and the term papers are assessed for evaluation. The 2nd year focuses on writing the dissertation based on the research work done by the student. The dissertation has to be submitted before the end of the course and a viva-voce is conducted based on it. On successful completion the degree is awarded.
The teachings are mostly conducted as seminars. The topics that are mostly discussed are theories of international relations, foreign policy practices, diplomacy, Indian foreign policy, the Asian region and internal dynamics, theory and practice of multilateral diplomacy, India in South Asia, look east policy and many more.
M.Phil in Foreign Policy Studies leads you to many opportunities. You can either go for further research and join a PhD program or may simply jump into the fray by joining a government job dealing in international affairs. You can also join any of the international bodies or organizations like United Nations that deal with world affairs and international business. In the government there are jobs in foreign service, diplomacy, national security, intelligence organizations and as defence civilians. Many profit and non-profit organizations in the private sector too provides for worthwhile career opportunities. University teaching, law, journalism are a few other options.
