Admission for PhD has different ways-
- Direct admission- This requires submission of application form explaining your scope of research to the institute as well as selected supervisor.
- Through National level examinations- CSIR and UGC conduct National Eligibility Test twice a year. If a candidate qualifies for PhD, he or she can get admission in reputed government institute for PhD.
- Through Institute level entrance test- Many government institutes conduct their own entrance examinations for PhD. Candidates need to submit the application form and perform well in entrance examination.
- Other way- The other ways includes extending the current project, enroll for PhD along with teaching assistance, contacting a supervisor and request to accept you for research work.
The duration for this course is variable with no strict policies. The usual duration ranges between 4- 6 years.
The initial part of course includes reading of literature already available on the selected topic. Candidates go through those papers and then start their own research.
Once they are done with their research, they need to write their thesis explaining about their research. The last step is to give presentation and defend your thesis in front of panel of experts in your field.
