M.Phil French is a 2 years programme, with the first year focusing on the course work, whereas the 2nd year is devoted towards the dissertation project. The dissertation has to be written at the most within 2 years, at the end of which a viva voce is conducted based on the dissertation. The course work is half assessment and half written exam at the end of the 1st year. The topics for course work are research methodology, issues in cultural theory, methodology of teaching a foreign language, literature, education and translation. It’s only after passing the exams in the course work are students allowed for writing the dissertation. The dissertation should be a original research work or should be a fresh interpretation of previous work. A few areas for choosing a topic for pursuing research are methodology of foreign language education and its practices, translation theory and practice and so on.

There are various openings for graduates having an M.Phil degree in French. One can get employed in the tourism industry, chamber of commerce, multinational companies, schools, colleges, embassies and in some of the government departments.
