Laser and optical technologies are finding increasing use in a number of fields such as engineering, communications, control systems, astronomy, biomedical research, medicine and scientific instruments. In recent years a number of breakthroughs have been achieved in this field which has resulted in development of components and systems based on electro-optics and laser theory. These days, it’s a field of intense research and scientists are endeavouring to devise a wide range of electro-optical systems and devices that are finding increasing applications in the above mentioned areas.
Eligibility and course duration
Should be an engineering graduate in streams such as electronics, instrumentation, electrical & electronics, electronics & communication or have a MSc degree in a relevant field. Entrance to the course is achieved through GATE score or entrance exams conducted by the respective universities and colleges.
Duration of the course is 2 years.

This is a postgraduate course that lays equal emphasis on both the theoretical as well as practical aspects of the course. The course is research oriented and provides you with opportunities to carry out a mini research in the last 2 semesters of the course. It helps if you have a sound understanding of most of the theories in physics and electronics. Through this course you will get to go into the depths of opto-electronics and state-of-the-art laser equipment and technologies. You will get to learn in depth how lights and lasers can be used for a variety of applications. Most of the subjects that you will be studying in this course are based on topics on radiation, laser theory, laser engineering and its applications, photonic materials, optical fibre communication, integrated optics, electromagnetic theory and a few others.
