PhD. is a doctoral level course which is considered as the highest academic degree f any specialization. The field of Arabic deals with classical and modern Islamic details and its understanding. Candidates learn about details of Arabophone culture, modern and pre-modern periods and its history.
This course can be pursed as regular course or even through correspondence. In the later case, candidates just need to enroll themselves from one university and appear in the exams. They need not to attend the classes on regular basis.
Admission can be obtained on direct basis by simply submitting the application form with all other required documents. Some institutes short list the candidates on merit basis and some institutes conduct an entrance examination for admission. This is to check the prior knowledge of Arabic in candidates. In last case, candidates performing well are short listed for admission and the same can be final after attending a short interview.
A candidates having done with his/ her post graduation with keen interest in Arabic are eligible for this course. Some institutes prefer candidates from Arabic back ground or candidates having prior knowledge of Arabic.
There is no restriction for minimum qualifying marks and age.
The duration for PhD is not very strict and candidates can complete the same in 3-5 years depending upon their topic of research. In some special cases, it can be further extended with prior permission from supervisor.
Further study options
PhD is the highest degree and candidates can get good job options after completing their PhD successfully. If a candidate is still interested in continuing research, he or she can do that through Post Doctorate degree. It is same as PhD but as it can be pursued only after PhD, it is named as 'Post Doctorate'.
Arabic is considered as a classical language and through this course; candidates get familiar with functional Arabic. They learn about basic Language skills in Arabic, its advancements, uses, origin and may more.
Details about Arabic textual traditions, Arabic famous literature, thought of the Islamic world, etc are also included in the course. Candidates first do study and then select any unique topic of their interest for their research.
At the end, they need to submit the thesis and give the presentation.
Being a language based course, these candidates can become a teacher, lecturer, writer, translator, journalist, etc.
They can work as a customer care support for Arabic customers.
