About the course
M.D.S Periodontics is that area of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the tissues that support or surround the teeth, such as the gum tissue and jaw bones. Therefore, candidates who are doing their M.D.S Periodontics course are offered training for detection, treatment and prevention of gum diseases. Upon graduating from dental school, a M.D.S Periodontics post graduate is required to spend several years in a residency program, studying the mechanisms of gum inflammation and effective treatment of the conditions.
- The basic eligibility criteria for pursuing M.D.S Periodontics course is a pass in B.D.S (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) degree or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Dental Council of India.
- The selection of students to M.D.S Periodontics degree is based on their merit. To determine the merit, AICET (All India Common Entrance Test) is conducted by various dental colleges or by the agency specified by the UGC (University Grants Commission), New Delhi.
- The minimum age limit to pursue this course is 21 years.
- A candidate should be physically fit to undergo M.D.S Periodontics degree and should not suffer from any contagious disease.
The duration of M.D.S Periodontics course is 3 years.
Process of M.D.S Periodontics course varies from institute to institute. Some institutes conduct their own entrance examination for admission, while some select students on the basis of their score at the graduation level.
