Introduction


The chemical products derived from petroleum are called petrochemicals. Petrochemicals are also called petroleum distillates. Some of the chemical compounds are obtained from fossil fuels, coal and natural gas. The common petrochemical groups includes olefins and aromatics. Olefins are produced by oil refineries and includes compounds such as ethylene and propylene. Aromatics like benzene, toulene are produced by fluid catalytic cracking of petroleum fraction. Depending on the chemical structure petrochemicals are divided into different groups. Petrochemicals find their uses in almost all walks of life. They are used in daily life in house old item, agriculture, horticulture, automobiles, electronic products, construction sectors, housing, packages, detergents etc. Petrochemical industry plays an important role in manufacturing industries and promotes in economic growth of the country.

The diploma course in petrochemicals technology is full time 3 years program. The course prepares the students to become competent petrochemical technologists in the field. The students gain in-depth knowledge and understanding in the areas of petroleum chemistry and its application. The study subjects includes oil and gas chemistry, permeability, well productivity, gas reservoir production, flow control, measurements, well production, surface components, emulsions etc. The program enables the students to translate their knowledge in relevant sectors. Learning focuses on understanding of fractional crude petroleum and useful fractional products. Study course imparts training to equip the students with latest techniques and technologies to be translated in the petrochemical settings.
