Overview


BPP or Bachelor Preparatory program is a very unique program for all those candidates who don’t have a formal education, i.e. they haven’t passed 10+2. This program is helpful to students who are eager to enroll for a BA or B.Com program in a regular university even without having done any formal schooling. All that is required of the candidate is that he or she should be literate and should be able to read and write in the language of study. It is not a course that is equivalent to the 10+2 education, nor does it replace it in terms of value of the course. It is just that it enables you to pursue an undergraduate degree course whether through distant learning, as in IGNOU or regular.

Eligibility and course duration


As mentioned above, undertaking this program doesn’t require any kind of minimum qualification. Reading and writing ability in the language is all that is required. The age of the candidate should be not less than 18 years.

The course is of 6 months to 2 years in duration.

The bachelor preparatory program is not a stringent one. Some of the institutes require the candidates to obtain a certain minimum marks, say around 36% marks in the final exam for further admission to the undergraduate programs. The program is mostly for the underprivileged section, which don’t have sufficient means to enroll for a classroom program. The program is available in a number of institutions in the country, and one gets to do the undergraduate program also in the same institute. The medium of education is also very flexible and depends upon the location of the school and the local language that is spoken around. Some of the languages that this course is available in the different institutes are English, Hindi, Bengali, Oriya, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati and Malayalam. These programs mostly have three courses. A preparatory course in mathematics, social sciences and commerce. The course is to be chosen as per one’s liking and area of interest.
