Most of the reputed institutes conduct entrance examinations to shortlist the candidates for admissions. Other institutes may short list the candidates on merit basis or may offer the admissions directly.

The duration for this course is 3 years. These 3 years are divided into 6 semesters in some institutes. Each semester is having 6 months duration.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates interested in higher studies can pursue M.Sc. or Master if Science in same or similar specializations like M.Sc. in Eco- restoration, M.Sc. in Environmental Science, etc. After that M.Phil and PhD can also be pursued to have scientific career in future.
The course starts with very basic topics like Elements of ecology, ecosystems Dynamics, bio diversity and its components, conservation, etc. Then candidates learn about renewable and non renewable energy resources, forest management, natural resources and its management and other related topics.
The later part of the course teaches about population ecology, petrology, Bio statistics, computer application, environment planning and impact assessment, agro ecosystem, forest landscape and management, watershed, etc. in detail.
The course also includes some practical sessions and field work to have better understanding about the issues related to eco system.
These candidates can work in population control boards, textile mills, waste treatment industries, food processing industries, mining companies, fertilizer plants, water resources management companies, etc. They can easily become environmental journalist, wildlife photographer, wildlife photographer, etc.
