Pass in 10+2 or any equivalent qualification from a recognized board and with at least 50% marks. Duration of the course is 4 years.

You begin with common design principles that are the same for every design course. The course in leather design specifically helps you learn about the materials that are used in making leather apparels and accessories. You get to learn the design skills and the product realization principles. You will be studying about leather processing and surfacing, pattern making and other design processes. You get to understand the different manufacturing processes and the advanced techniques that are used in processing of leather. You pick up on skills that are useful for understanding the design concepts, in reading technical drawings and in understanding the supply chain principles, production systems and merchandising. The 4 year course provides you with a hands-on approach towards learning the various skills related to this field. You also get to experience internship in industries, project works and research and development experience in design related activities.
There are a good many opportunities in the field of leather design. As a designer you can get jobs in export houses exporting leather goods, merchandisers, production houses, retail brands, designer brands or get to work along with entrepreneur designers. Some of the positions that could be offered to you are designer, stylist, production head, account head, merchandiser, product specialist, division head and so on. You could also work in areas such as trend analyst, market intelligence, liaisoning and sourcing. You can also be an entrepreneur and set up your own enterprise in the field.
