Master of Fashion Management or M.F.M is a post graduate course related to fashion designing and its management. Candidates get exposure to creative merchandising, marketing and management through practical sessions. They also learn about innovative fashion management practices, fashion trends, fashion forecasting and related business terms through this course.
Candidates willing to work in global marketing environment especially for brand management, global sourcing and fashion merchandizing are suitable for this course. They must have the skills required for design developments, its different processes and to generate new fashion related ideas.
Candidtaes who have done their graduation in same or related field from a reputed institute are eligible for this course. Diploma holders in the field of Fashion are also considered for this course by some institutes. The minimum qualifying marks and age criteria need to be checked before submission of the application form as it varies from one institute to another.
Admission procedures includes submission of filled application form enclosed with other required documents and application fee. Some institutes take direct admissions, some short list on merit basis and few reputed institutes conduct entrance examinations to validate the skills ad knowledge of candidates and then they short list the deserving candidates depending upon their performance in the same.
The duration for this course is 2 years. These 2 years are divided into 4 different semesters and each semester ends with final examinations. Candidates need to qualify each semester separately to complete the course.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, interested candidates can pursue PhD in same or related field. There is no age restriction for this course and candidates can pursue the same as per their suitability and availability.
The course starts with basic product and manufacturing related knowledge about design, fabric, pattern, etc. Then candidates learn about principles of fashion marketing, economic analysis, merchandizing, statistics, management and information technology.
The course also includes research based studies about Consumer behavior, global textiles, apparel product market characteristics, retail management, quantitative techniques, advanced export merchandising and other related topics.
The later part of course teaches about international marketing, human resource management, supply chain management, visual merchandizing and customer relationship management.
These candidates can work in fashion media, fashion houses, textile mills, media houses, garment manufacturing units, etc.
