B.E. is an abbreviated form of bachelor of Engineering which is an Undergraduate or Bachelor level course in the technical stream. B.E. in Instrumentation Engineering is a branch of engineering which teaches about production processes, measurements, and industry-based problem-solving skills. Candidates learn about safety measures for industries, DC electronic and metrology, industrial electronic systems, AC electronics and photonics, microcontrollers, digital systems and many more. Theoretical topics like mathematics, fundamentals of instrumentation, industrial management, linear integrated circuit, transducers, analog electronics, etc are also included in the course.
candidates who have passed 12th standard examinations from a recognized and registered board and a reputed institute are eligible for this course. They must have studied physics, chemistry and mathematics to become eligible for this. The minimum requiring marks are 55% as an aggregate. For admissions, entrance tests are conducted on various levels like national level, state level, and institute level. The duration of this course is 4 years or 8 semesters. It is 3 years from candidates holding Diploma in the same subject. In such cases, many institutes take direct admissions in the 2nd year of B.E.
Further Study options
After completion of B.E., candidates can continue their studies by pursuing master’s degree like M.E. or M.Tech in same or similar specializations. After that, Ph.D. is also available for these candidates to get an opportunity in the scientific world.
The course teaches basic topics during the initial phase of the course. These are engineering physics, engineering mathematics, computer programming, the chemistry of engineering material, communication skills and fundamentals of measurement and instrumentations. Then candidates learn about material sciences, sensors, transducers, analog electronic circuits, numerical analysis, digital electronics, process dynamics, and control, etc through this course. The course also includes many lab sessions to ensure a better understanding of the subject.
