M.E. or Master of Engineering is a Post Graduate course in the field of Engineering and has many specializations. Microelectronics is a stream focusing on the study about microfabrication of electric components which is helping in the miniaturizing the size of different electric circuits and system made using semiconductors. Candidates learn about important concepts related to DSP, Physical electronics, their applications, hardware description, biosensors, biomass, computational electromagnetic, VLSI Technology and many more.
The course is advantageous for those who are having skills like extracting relevant information, making logical recommendations considering political influences and wider social impact.
Candidates holding bachelor’s degree or graduation degree in a technical stream are eligible for this course. This degree must be completed in the field related to Microelectronics to have a higher probability of getting selected for admissions. The minimum qualifying marks and age criteria need to be checked at the administrative department of the selected institute as it varies from one to another institute.
Candidates need to submit the duly filled application form enclosed with all the other required documents and application fee before the last date of submission. Admissions are done through entrance test in most of the reputed institutes and some of them are also conducting their interview sessions for further screening of deserving candidates.
The duration of this course is 2 years just like all other post graduation degree course. These 2 years are divided into 4 semesters and each semester is having 6 months duration.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates having interest in higher studies and have research aptitude should go for Ph.D. in Microelectronics. It is a Research-based degree and can be pursued at any stage of your professional life as per your requirement and suitability.
The course starts with basic theoretical concepts like Antennas and diversity, information theory and coding, wireless communications, microwave antennas and Propagation, channel coding and speech coding, modern wireless communication systems, etc. Then candidates learn about software defined radio, radar signal analysis, satellite-based wireless communication, numerical techniques in electromagnetics and other related topics.
The course also includes some practical lab sessions, seminars, and short-term project.
These candidates are ideal for working in companies like Bharat Electronics Limited, in colleges and universities, labs, transportation firms, industrial plants, product development companies, etc.
