In the first two semesters of the four semester course the student undergoes core subjects and elective subjects like mass and heat transfer operations, reaction engineering, process dynamics & control, industrial pollution control, environment engineering, waste management, systems engineering , characterization and processing of materials etc. In the second year each student has to work on a thesis and carry out in depth research on a particular topic of interest based on mutual consultation with the guide. The curriculum is aimed at preparing skilled and professional chemical engineers for the chemical industry.
The Master’s graduates find job opportunities in core chemical, manufacturing and service industries including pharmaceuticals, plastic, rubber, food, materials, biotechnology, tyre manufacturing, mining process, petrochemical, synthetic fibers, nuclear energy etc. Some post graduates opt to work in research laboratories or in universities as a professor. Others who are interested in government jobs need to clear Engineering Service Examinations conducted by the UPSC and then take up jobs in government based defense establishments, healthcare related research projects, atomic power plants, environment regulation, recycling department and power conservation projects.
The Master’s program graduate can extend the Master’s thesis and take it ahead to carry out PhD program.
