Ph.D Chemical Physics

Are you a chemical engineer? Are you a theoretical physicist? Then, if you are thinking of further studies, you might think of interdisciplinary studies. You can think of combining Physics and Chemistry into a single course. You can study a PhD. Chemical Physics in order to delve into some interdisciplinary studies.

Course Name: Ph.D Chemical Physics
Group:
Stream: Engineering
Course Category: General
Duration:

Introduction

This PhD. course incorporate both Physics and Chemistry in it. There are certain areas where both these subjects overlap. There might be a lot of chemical problems which can be explained using Theoretical Physics and there might be a lot of physical problems which could be explained using Physical Chemistry. All these will be instructed to you when you enroll in the course. You will be guided to model new problems in theoretical physics or chemistry in the light of the other subject. You will learn to analyze the project data using any method you have learnt in Physics and Chemistry. During the research period of this course you will have to implement the algorithms that you have learnt in the coursework to solve some new problems. You will have to prepare a dissertation combining the work that you have done in the 3-5 years duration of this course.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The students applying for this course should pass their master's degree first.
  2. All those students who have either completed their master's degree in Physics or Chemistry or Biophysics or Chemical Biology are allowed to take the admission forms.
  3. Along with the previous criterion, only those students who have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in their master degree will be provided with the application forms.
  4. Then the first round of screening will start and the students will have to appear for a university entrance examination. This is a written examination to test the basic knowledge level of the students in Theoretical Physics and Chemistry.
  5. The students who clear this examination will be called for a personal interview. If any student has published any term paper in Physics or Chemistry, this is the chance for them to showcase it and grab some extra points. The students who get the maximum score in the interview will be selected for this PhD. course.

Job Prospects

  • You can become a polymer tester. Your job will be to test the polymer chemicals and see if they can be used in the manufacturing department of a company. You also need to research on how the quality of such polymers could be improved.
  • You can become an assistant professor in either Chemistry or Physics or Biophysics or other related subjects.
  • You can become a postdoctoral fellow in Chemical Physics or any other related field. You will have to engage yourself in researching new problems and paradigms in the field of Physics and Chemistry.
