Doctor of Philosophy is most of the times addressed as Ph.D. which is a research course available in all the streams and subjects. Ph.D. in Nursing is a completely focused on the care of individuals, communities, families and to support them to maintain good health, to have a fast recovery and to have a good life. This course is available in regular mode only as candidates need to have practise sessions to get skilled in handling the patients with different kinds of illness.
Candidates who have completed their Post Graduation or Master’s degree in Nursing from a reputed and registered institute and have acquired 55% marks as aggregate are eligible for this course.
Candidates holding M.Phil degree in Nursing are also eligible for this course in some institutes.
Some institutes also accept professionals having experience in the field of Nursing.
The age criteria need to be checked before submission of application form from the selected institute.
For admissions, interested candidates need to submit the duly filled application form enclosed with all the required documents before the last date of submission. Some institutes take direct admissions whereas some reputed institutes conduct entrance sessions and interviews to shortlist the deserving candidates for admissions.
The duration of this course is 3 years but it is variable. Candidates may ask for an extension with valid reasons but it is subject to the approval from the supervisor.

After Ph.D., Post Doctorate degree course is available which is actually an extension of research work pursuing by the candidate after completion of his or her Ph.D.
This course has different parts which include Nursing leadership in Health Care delivery system, Philosophy of Nursing Science and theoretical perspectives, Various Nursing Theories, and their developments, etc.
Candidates learn about analysis of national and global health problems, national and global health policies, health economics, nursing management, nursing informatics theory, etc through this course.
A part of the philosophy of nursing, history, domains of nursing, paradigms influencing the approach to nursing science development, etc is also included in the course.
