Mining Machinery Engineering is a course that includes various aspects of mining engineering like mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, coal and non-coal sectors, various mining and construction machinery, etc. Master of Technology or M.Tech is a post Graduation level course which deals with the study of the mining industry, related technology, coal and non-coal sectors and many other related things.
Candidates currently working in the mining industry and want to improve their knowledge and skills in the same are suitable for this course. It is not available through correspondence as it requires some experiments, lab, and practical sessions to have a better understanding but professionals can go for part-time mode. Not all, but some institutes are offering it in part-time mode also.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates can enroll in Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy in Mining Machinery Engineering or any other related subject. This will allow you to conduct your own research and to work on scientific projects.
Admissions are offered through screening based on the performance of candidates in entrance examinations. These can be national level tests like GATE, state level or institute level and a single candidate can participate in any or all of them as per his or her suitability.
Candidates holding B.E., B.Tech degree or any other equivalent degree from a reputed and recognized institute are eligible for this course. It should be done related subjects and candidates should have secured at least 60% marks as aggregate to become eligible for this course.
Age criteria must be checked before submitting the application form as it varies from one institute to another.
The duration of this course is 2 years or 4 semesters.
The course includes some core subjects like Mechanics, mining methods and related machinery, principles of planning, Ventilation, surface environment, underground hazards, surveying, system engineering and mine planning.
The course also has some guest lectures, mining industrial visits, some short-term projects, lab sessions, dissertation and seminars which give an in-depth knowledge and learning to students.
These candidates can work in companies like Manganese Ore India Ltd., Adani Mining Pvt. Ltd., Steel Authority of India Ltd., Uranium Corporation of India Ltd., Essel Mining, and Industries Ltd., etc. They can work as a Mineral Salesperson, mining supervisor, mining and Geological Engineer, Research Scientist, Research Assistant, etc very easily.
