M.Tech is an abbreviation of Master of Technology and it is a Post Graduate level degree course in technical stream. After completion of this course, candidates can pursue Ph.D. in mineral Engineering or any other related subject. It is a research-based course which gives an opportunity to conduct your own research and contribute to scientific research.
Candidates holding graduate level technical degrees like Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Mineral Engineering or any other related subject are eligible for this course. It must be pursued from a recognized institute and candidates should have secured at least 60% to become eligible for this course.
Entrance tests are common for admission in this course. Candidates need to appear in entrance tests which can of a national level like GATE, State level or institute level. Candidates get shortlisted on the basis of their performance in these tests.
In all the cases, candidates need to fill the application form and submit it before the last date of submission. The application must be attached with all other documents like previous qualification certificate copies, application fee, caste certificate copy, etc.
The duration of this course is 2 years or 4 semesters. Each semester has 6 months duration.
The course includes the study of coal and CBM Exploration, Tectonics and structural methods for exploration, drilling and blasting, resource evaluation and geo-statistics, etc. Candidates also learn about exploration geochemistry, advanced geo-statistics, industrial engineering, basics of management, and other related topics. Some elective subjects like Petroleum and Gas Hydrate exploration, Groundwater exploration, IT Applications in Mineral Exploration, etc are also included in the course.
These candidates can work in academic institutions and can become a professor, lecturer, etc. They can also work in firms like Coal India Ltd., Indian Bureau of Mines, Geological Survey of India, etc.
