Master of Technology is a Post Graduation level Degree course in the technical field. It is addressed as M.Tech most of the times. M.Tech in Mining Engineering includes theory, practical sessions, basic science, technology, various applications of extracting and processing minerals from natural resources, etc.
Candidates having the ability to think analytically, have keen observation power and teamwork ability are suitable for this course. Prior knowledge of mining engineering, management skills, business and financial principles, etc are preferred for this course.
The course includes experiments, lab sessions, industrial interactions, seminars, etc hence it is not available through correspondence and candidates need to attend the same either in regular or in part-time mode.
Candidates holding B.E., B.Tech or any other equivalent degree in Civil, agricultural, mining, etc are eligible for this course. It must be pursued from a recognized and registered institute and candidates should have secured at least 60% marks as an aggregated to become eligible for this course.
Admissions can be availed by filling and submitting the filled form in the selected institute before the last date of submission. Most of the institutes shortlist the candidates depending upon their performance in the entrance tests getting conducted at various levels like national level, state level or institute level. Candidates performing well get chance to enroll in the course.
The duration of this course is 2 Years and these 2 years are equivalent to 4 semesters. Each semester has 6 months duration.
Further Study options
After completion of this master’s degree, the available option is Ph.D. for those who are willing to pursue higher studies. Ph.D. is a Doctorate degree course which allows you to select a topic of your interest and conduct the research on it. It also allows you to enter the scientific world of research and experiments.
Topics like Advance environmental engineering, rock Excavation engineering, mine management, advanced mine planning, etc are included in the course. The course also includes a long list of elective subjects like Tunneling, Rock slope technology, coal mining, strata control technology, Mining of Deep-seated deposits, mine fires and spontaneous heating, etc. Candidates are allowed to selected subjects as per their interest as their electives.
These candidates can become research engineer, Key Account Manager, Mining Engineer, Technical Consultant, Assistant Mining Engineer, etc as per their interest and skills.
