More about the course

The diploma program aims in producing professionals who can work with children suffering from hearing loss, especially those at an early age and cater to their special needs. The special educators can be instrumental in training these children with skills that will help them in attending schools, even regular schools with normal children without much hardship. During the program the special educators are trained on many of the techniques that hearing impaired people use to communicate with each other or the rest of the world. To train the special educators the courses involve topics on linguistics and audiology. Since the job of a special educator involves dealing with children with special needs, the focus is also on developing people to people skills and building rapport with such children so as to aid in their learning process.

Job opportunities and prospects

Special educators mostly get employed with special care schools, integrated schools and some regular schools too, as educators and care givers. They are employed with the government in jobs that require them to work at community level with children and adults afflicted with hearing loss. They may also find employment in rehabilitation clinics, hospitals and with NGOs working in this direction. After your diploma you may even proceed for a bachelor’s degree program in special education like B.Ed. Beyond that you may also pursue a M.Ed program.
