M.Tech or Master of technology is a Post Graduate level degree course in the field of technology. Design engineering is an important domain of Architecture engineering which teaches about engineering design process including computer-aided designing, implementing and manufacturing. The course includes topics like electrical and electronics, joining and fastening, manufacturing, engineered materials, motion control, mechanical engineering, etc.
This course is completely technical in nature; hence candidates cannot pursue it through correspondence. It includes theoretical classes, lab sessions, experiments, etc. Some related industrial visits, guest lectures, short-term projects, etc are also included in the course to have a better understanding by the students.
The course requires candidates who have completed their graduation degree in technical field and holding, Bachelor of Technology, bachelor of engineering or any other equivalent degree from a reputed institute. The minimum qualifying marks are 50% in most of the institutes. The age restriction varies from one institute to another.
This course is professional in nature and has good competition for admission. Candidates need to submit their application before the last date of submission and then they need to appear in entrance tests. It can be of national level, state level or even institute level. They need to perform well to get shortlisted for the admission.
the duration of this course is 2 years. These 2 years are equivalent to 4 semesters. Each semester has 6 months duration and it ends with its final examination. Candidates need to clear each semester separately to complete the course.
Further Study options
After completing this course, candidates are eligible to get good jobs but still if someone wants to continue his or her studies, Ph.D. in Design technology, surface coating technology, etc can be done. It is a research-based course where a candidate gets an opportunity to conduct research on the selected topic of self-interest after approval from his/ her supervisor.
the course includes topics like feasible study, modeling, and analysis, design methods, decision theory, design optimization, computer-aided design, product design, etc. Candidates also learn about properties and selection of engineering materials.
Some elective subjects are also included in the course and candidates can select from them as per their interest. They are Advanced dynamics, mechanics of composite materials, experimental methods for solids and fluids, neural networks, mechatronics product design, etc.
These candidates can become an electrical engineer, project leader, fixture designer, design engineer, production supervisor, etc as per their interest.
