Master of Technology or M.Tech is a post-graduate level degree course which is available in many different technical specializations. Electronic Instrumentation and Control domain is one among them with excellent opportunities after completion. Instrumentation is a part of art and science of control and measurements. An instrument is considered as a device that is used to measure or regular process variable like flow, level, temperature, the pressure during any work.
Control engineering is an engineering involved in control theory involved in design systems.
Candidates having excellent communication skills, have interpersonal and team working skills, good knowledge of instrumentation and want to learn about their working in detail are ideal for this course.
Admission procedures include submission of application form enclosed with other important documents. To get admissions in reputed institutes, candidates need to appear in entrance tests and secure top ranks. These tests can be national level like GATE, state level or institute level and a single candidate can appear in multiple tests as per his or her availability.
Candidates holding a bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Engineering or any other graduate level degree with the specialization in metallurgical, aeronautical, mechatronics, industrial or marine engineering are eligible for this course. It should be pursued from a reputed institute and candidates must have secured 60% marks or higher to become eligible for this course.
It also has some strict age restrictions with some relaxations to reserved castes. Candidates are advised to check the same before submission of application.
The duration of this course is 2 years or 4 semesters. Each semester has 6 months duration.
Further Study options
After completion of M.Tech, candidates can enroll in Ph.D. in the same or related field. It is a research-based degree course during which candidates can select the topic of their own interest and can conduct the research work after reading the available literature.
The course starts with simple topics like advanced mathematical techniques, transducer technology, linear control theory, modeling and simulation of dynamic systems, etc. Then it also includes advanced control theory, digital control systems, process control and instrumentation.
The course has included some elective subjects like electronic devices and systems, modern power converters, advanced microprocessors, microcontrollers, industrial automation, ultrasonic instrumentation and many more.
These candidates can work in companies like Oil Exploration and refining centers, defense services, chemical industries, electronic manufacturing companies, quality testing laboratories, etc.
