Master of Science is known as M.Sc. (its abbreviated name) in most of the cases. It is a Post Graduate level degree course in science stream and is available all the subjects related to science. M.Sc. in Applied Chemistry is the study of various applications of chemical elements, compounds, etc in arts and industries. The duration of this course is 2 years. These 2 years are divided into 4 semesters, each having 6 months duration.
Being a Post Graduate level course, it requires the candidates who have completed their graduation degree from a recognized and registered institute successfully. They must have specialized in science stream and have studied Chemistry during graduation to become eligible for this course. The minimum qualifying age and marks vary from one institute to another and applicants are advised to check the same before submitting their applications.
For admissions, candidates need to submit their duly filled application form before the last date of submission. This application must be enclosed with other documents required to process it further. Admissions are offered in different ways in different institutes and it includes direct admissions, on the merit basis or through entrance examinations.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates can go for the master of philosophy in Applied Chemistry and then Doctor of philosophy in the same or related subject. These are research-oriented courses where candidates get opportunities to conduct experiments and do research as per their interest after approval from their supervisor.
The course syllabus includes core chemistry and its applications in different fields. It includes inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry and their respective practice sessions.
Candidates also learn about various techniques, uses, applications of chemistry in different fields, etc through this course.
The last semester of the course is dissertation during which candidates need to conduct a short-term project and submit the thesis at the end.
They can work in chemical industries, food institutes, biotechnological organizations, engineering units, Oil industries, medical research firms, etc.
