M.Tech or Master of Technology is a Post Graduation degree course in the Technical stream. It has many specializations and Production Engineering is one among them with excellent job options. Production Engineering has 2 main parts- Manufacturing technology and management science. The course is completely technical in nature hence it cannot be pursued through correspondence and interested candidates need to enroll in regular mode only.
The course requires candidates who have completed their bachelor's degree in B.E. or B.Tech stream with same or related specializations. This must be pursued from a recognized institute and they should have secured at least 60% marks as an aggregate.
For admissions, candidates need to apply in the selected institute by submitting the duly filled application form before the last day of submission. They also need to apply for the national and state level entrance test for this course. Candidates securing good scores in the same can get admissions in reputed institute very easily.
Some institutes also conduct their own tests to shortlist the candidates for the course.
The duration of this course is 2 years. The complete curriculum of the course is divided into 4 equal parts known as semesters. Each semester is having 6 months duration.

After completion of this Master level course, these candidates can go for Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy is Production Engineering or related subject. It is a research-based course where candidates get opportunities to learn through their own experiments.
The course starts with the basic topics like Numerical methods and computer programming, applied operation research, modeling, simulation, analysis, etc. Then the candidates learn about computer-aided manufacturing, optimization for engineering design, robotics and control, and design of production systems. The course also has some electives, projects and a dissertation.
