This four year course comprises of basic, core and elective subjects and a final year project. The curriculum may include an internship in the industry depending on the university curriculum. Students learn a variety of subjects like applied physics, applied chemistry, applied mathematics, engineering drawing, electrical workshop, basic electricity and electronics and etc. in the first year. Second year onwards the students study electronic devices and circuits, electrical networks, computer networks, operating systems, data structures and algorithms, databases, data warehousing, computer architecture, microprocessors, multimedia, distributed systems, software engineering, project management etc. In the third and fourth year, students can choose from a list of electives and then carry out project work.
A graduate computer engineer can take up a job in private IT MNCs or other large scale to small-scale organizations or in government sector. The job profile may include ideate and design systems depending on the user requirements, debug and test computer systems comprising of hardware, software programs and networking systems.
The graduate engineer can opt for higher education of ME/ MTech/ MS in Computers or IT and then if interested move on to study for PhD.
