Automations are taking the industrial sector by storm. Some of the state-of-the-art automation techniques are already revolutionizing the manufacturing process in many industries. Automation saves on cost by utilizing the resources in a systematic and efficient way. It reduces on the wastage and the need for human interference is reduced to the little. The advances in electronics, instrumentation, computers and control systems have given a big boost to the automation process in the industries and thus qualified engineering professionals trained in the field are in big demand for designing such automation systems.
Eligibility and course duration
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering in disciplines such as electrical, electronics, instrumentation, computer science, mechatronics, instrumentation & control, electronics & telecommunication and other related field.
Admissions are done mostly based on past academic performance. The duration of the program is 6 months.
More about the course
The industrial sector, to stay competitive and to address issues concerning environmental damage and human safety has taken to automation in a big way. To address the manpower requirement in this regard, many of the institutes have started tabling courses on industrial automation. The present post graduate diploma program envisages to teach and train the students on automation through a number of modules. It merges information or knowledge from diverse fields like instrumentation, control systems, manufacturing, production line fundamentals and teaches you on applications such as plant automation, production line automation, batch process control and embedded machine control. During the course of 24 weeks you are provided with extensive knowledge on a variety of systems such as instrumentation, networking, machine vision, programmable logic controls, electrical systems and drives, high speed data acquisition, HMI or human machine interface, SCADA and PC/PLC based control, etc. Among other things, you are also introduced to microprocessor based controls, robotics and various software. As part of your training you are also required to make a project based on industrial automation.
Prospects and job opportunities
With the ever increasing demand for professionals trained in industrial automation, those undertaking such courses never find it difficult to obtain a suitable job. Most of the MNCs in India like ABB, Siemens, Schneider, Goodyear and some of the top Indian companies like TATA, Essar Steel and others are big employers in the field of industrial automation system design. You may also take up master’s and other post graduate programs in the field.
