M.Tech or Master of Technology in Energy and Environmental Engineering is a Post Graduate level engineering course which deals with different domains of private and public energy and environmental management. Candidates learn to make decisions about production, policy, resource utilization, etc and to act in an environmentally friendly way. The course provides knowledge and skills to work in a cost-effective way and to manage the energy resources in industrial and commercial development considering the environmental constraints.
Candidates having analytical skills, logical thinking and having a good approach to various aspects of utilization of renewable sources are ideal for this course.
The course requires candidates who have successfully completed their graduation in a technical stream and are holding Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology degree from a reputed institute. They must have scored 50% marks or higher to become eligible and the age criteria need to be checked as it varies from one to another institute.
M.Tech is a professional course, hence there is a competition for admission and most of the reputed institutes conduct entrance examinations to validate the knowledge of candidates. There is some national level and state level entrance examinations are also getting conducted every year and candidates securing tops ranks can get admissions in reputed institutes very easily.
The duration of this course is 2 years which is equivalent to 4 semesters; each having 6 months duration.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, candidates can enroll in Ph.D. in Green technology, Mineral Processing, Environmental Engineering or any other related topic of their interest. It is a Research-based course and candidates get chance to conduct their own experiments to draw conclusions.
The course has different parts and topics for environmental and energy-related subjects. It includes environmental Quality Monitoring, Physicochemical, Biological principles and processes, the design of water and wastewater treatment systems, renewable energy technologies, etc. Candidates also learn about energy audit, solid and hazardous waste management, environmental Quality Management, Environmental Geo-technology and ecology through this course.
Remote sensing, Risk Assessment, Industrial waste management, disposal, disaster management, alternative fuels, wind energy technology, air pollution and its control are some important part of the course.
They can work in architecture firs, energy storage firms, nuclear power plants, Biomass companies, solar power plants, environmental protection agencies, academic institutes, etc. The suitable designations are an assistant officer, environmental officer, engineer, analyst, etc.
