Instrument Technology is related to Instrumentation Engineering which is the branch of science dealing with the art of control and measurement of process variables during manufacturing or production. To become eligible for this course, candidates should complete their 10th standard successfully. It must be done from a recognized institute and registered board. Candidates with higher qualifications are also allowed and accepted for the course. The age criteria also vary depending upon the qualification of the candidate.
Admissions are very simple and includes submission of duly filled applications attached with other required documents and application form before the last date of application submission. Admissions are mostly offered directly or on merit basis and only some reputed institutes conduct entrance tests to validate the knowledge of candidates.
The duration of this course is not fixed and varies depending upon the qualification of the candidates. It is 3 years for 10th passed candidates and 2 years for 12th passed candidates. It may also vary due to other factors like institute and mode of the course.
Further Study options
Diploma after 12th does not guarantee a long-term option for good career and candidates are advised to pursue degree courses. They can go for Graduation in B.Tech or B.E. in Instrumentation Engineering, Medical Electronics, Electronic Instrumentation, and Control, etc. After that, Post graduation can be pursued in M.E. or M.Tech with same or related subjects.
Ph.D. is an option for candidates having research abilities.
Being a diploma level course, it includes all basic topics related to the course. It teaches about engineering physics, basic electricity, principles of instrumentation engineering, engineering drawing, etc. The course also includes digital electronics, microprocessors, principles of automatic control, transducers and signal conditioning circuits, electrical and electronics measurements and instruments, etc.
These candidates have different job options depending upon their interest and latter qualifications. They can work as an instrumentation designer, Manager, instrumentation fitter, operator, etc.
