More about the course

Spread across 4 semesters the program aims to provide you with a deeper understanding of the field of earth sciences and the various processes that affect the surface of earth. Various geological and geophysical data are applied to research into a number of areas studying natural hazards such as earthquakes, environmental geology, rock mechanics and rock physics. The field of study has been instrumental in understanding the earth, its geology and the various earth systems. The field is very much related to many of the mineral and petroleum exploration taken up by mankind. Without gaining a scientific insight in this field it would have been difficult for us in extracting numerous resources that we take for granted from mother Earth. Whether it is groundwater protection or studying the chemistry of the soil or water, geological technology concerns them all. The measures that the scientific community is today taking against environmental degradation and hazards have been possible by understanding this subject. Students desirous of studying this field need to have a solid background in mathematics, chemistry and the applied sciences.

Career prospects

Geological technologists have the option to work in fields ranging from mineral exploration, oil & gas exploration, environmental protection, groundwater protection and so on. They may also work with regulatory bodies and consulting firms that provide solutions for a number of issues concerning exploration and environmental protection. They may also seek to go for research in the field and enroll for a PhD or M.Phil program in geological technology.
