The MA program in English and comparative literature provides you with a greater understanding of the English language. One gets to know a lot about the origin and growth of the English language over many centuries. One learns about the literary practices staring from the earliest periods of the development of this language. One also learns of the medieval period and how it affected the development of the language during those times. Other than the rich history of the language, one also learns of the rich heritage of English drama, poetry, prose and theatre. From methodologies and perspectives, you get to go through a number of works on English literature authored by literary greats who can be no more reached by us but their works continue to enliven us all the more. Poetries, prose, dramas, media studies and many other fictional works form part of the syllabus. You are also introduced to the various literary theories and there is a introduction to linguistics too. Other than the classical works of the British era, there are works on Indian writing in English too that you get to study. Among other things there will be topics on creative writing, film studies and a second language too.
