M.Sc. is an abbreviation of Master of Science, which is a post graduation degree course in science stream. It can be done in different subjects related to science like biology, mathematics, computers, physics, biotechnology, sericulture, etc. Silk technology is also considered as a part of textile engineering which teaches about the production of silk and involved technology, its different sources like worms and other artificial sources like chemicals, etc. Candidates learn about the manufacturing process of fabrics, their properties, dyeing and treating of material, conversion of raw fabric in the finished product, packing, and marketing. The main highlights of the course are fiber science-related topics like yarn manufacture, yarn structure, textile testing, tarn properties, dyeing, etc.
The duration of this course is 2 years. These 2 years are equivalent to 4 semesters where each semester is having 6 months duration. Candidates pursuing the course need to pass each semester separately to successfully completing the course.
This course requires graduate candidates who have pursued their bachelor’s degree in any of the related subjects from a registered and recognized institute. After that, the postdoc can be done which is nothing but the extension of research work you have done during Ph.D.
The course starts with basic topics like silk reeling technology, apparel marketing and merchandising, chemical processing of textiles, knitting technology, etc. Then the candidates learn about total quality management, fiber reinforced composites, non-mulberry silk technology, and erection and maintenance of textile machinery.
Details of yarn and silk fiber manufacturing are also included in the course. Some guest lectures, practical sessions, projects are there to provide a better understanding.
