M.Sc. or Master of Science is a Post Graduate level degree course in the field of Science. It can be pursued in different science-related subjects like Biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and many more. M.Sc. in Science Communication is related to images, words, sounds, etc using which we try to communicate the facts and stories of the scientific world. Candidates pursuing this course learn about how to become a good storyteller as we use to convey stories to the audience to transfer the information.
This course combines the different fields of science like scientists, journalism, communicators, etc mostly for the purpose of creating awareness.
The course requires candidates who have completed graduation in science. It must be pursued from a registered institute and candidates should have secured at least 55% marks as an aggregate to become eligible for this course.
Some institutes offer relaxation in terms of age requirement and minimum qualifying marks to the candidates from reserved castes.
For admissions, interested candidates can fill and submit their duly filled application forms in the selected institutes. They can apply to multiple institutes as per their suitability to have multiple options. But admission can be taken only in one institute at a time.
Reputed institutes conduct entrance tests to validate the knowledge of candidates but there are some institutes offering seats on merit basis.
The duration is 2 years for this course. These 2 years are equivalent to 4 semesters; each having 6 months duration. Candidates need to pass each semester separately to complete the course successfully.
Further Study options
After completion of this course, interested candidates can get into the research field by enrolling in Ph.D. or Doctor of Philosophy course in any of the topic of their interest. M.Phil is a short-term course which can also be pursued by these candidates. B.Ed. and M.Ed. are for those having interest in teaching.
Through this course, candidates explore the social issues related to the field of science and technology. Candidates get the capability to learn about the social significance of science and try to reflect the criticality in society about it.
Candidates having a confident attitude, effective communication skills, competent and have a strong grip on the subject are ideal for this course.
These candidates can work in the field of media, radio production, print journalism, public affairs, science policy work, broadcast television, etc. They can also join academic institutes for teaching purpose.
