Japanese language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is a standardized and popular proficiency test in the Japanese language for non-native speakers. The test has 5 levels to it from N1 to N5. N5 being the most basic and N1 is the highest level of certification. The benefits are many on having certification through this proficiency test. Even N2 and N3 level has benefits that allow you to take admission in schools and colleges in Japan. Getting a job in Japan too becomes a lot easy through these certifications. The N1 level of certification helps you in being given point based preferential treatment for immigration to Japan for highly skilled foreign professionals. Eligibility and periodicity of exam


Anyone with an elementary or high school qualification can apply for this course. The tests are held twice a year in July and December.

The proficiency test is held in Japan as well as overseas. In India the test is held in six cities, namely Bangalore, Pune, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai. You have to contact the local institution in order to take this test. In overseas, the test is offered by Japan Foundation with help from local educational institutions and cultural exchange bodies. The students could get training from these local institutions or may study on their own and appear for the tests at the given centres. Among the characteristics that are tested is knowledge about the language, reading and listening ability. The test scores do not expire and remain valid for whole life.
