Since Punjabi is the official language of the state of Punjab in India, it is taught in schools at various levels. To be able to teach Punjabi in schools, it is now mandatory to undertake a B.Ed program preferably in the subject one is going to teach. A bachelors degree preferably in the Punjabi language or Punjabi should be one of the subjects in graduation. Should have 50% or more marks in graduation.

Here in this course you will learn the various teaching methodologies that are to be used to teach Punjabi in middle and secondary schools. You will be going through topics on educational psychology, child psychology, the prevalent educational pattern in the country and the theory and art of teaching. Among other things you will be also learning about setting up the curriculum, lesson planning, assessment, evaluation, special education, policies on education and so on. You will be learning about the teaching strategies and understanding students needs. Since you will be specializing teaching Punjabi you will be further familiarized with the language. Interestingly the Punjabi language has two written scripts. Shahmukhi is used mainly by the Muslims in Pakistan, whereas Gurmukhi is used in India by the Sikhs and Hindus. You also get to work on the etymology and origin of the language.
Undertaking this program provides you the opportunity to take up teaching jobs in schools in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and elsewhere Punjabi is taught as the first, second or third language. To further your expertise in teaching you can take up a masters or M.Ed program in education. This will help you take up greater responsibilities as head of the department, senior teacher and even principal and vice principal.
