Introduction

Coastal Disaster Management is a subject that will help you learn about the oceans, and the land. You will learn about various kinds of soils and their constituents. You will learn how the soil consistencies change during natural calamities like earthquakes, floods, etc. You will spend one year of this course in coursework. You will learn to study the journals related to Coastal Disaster Management. The students will also learn to review the journals. Sometimes some universities assign separate marks for reviewing journals. You will learn about the new technologies that are used to determine the probable disasters of the coastal areas. Sometimes some universities send their top three students in an exchange program to foreign countries like USA. There you will study the curriculum of Coastal Disaster Management for 3-6 months. Eligibility Criteria

  1. You must complete a master’s degree, that is, an M.Sc. in Coastal Disaster Management. Some universities also allow students with M.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering or Civil Engineering to apply for this course. In either case, you must score minimum 55% in the master’s course.
  2. There is no provision for appearing in the UGC NET or SET in Coastal Disaster Management. There is Environmental Science in which you can appear in UGC NET or SET. But, that score may not be applicable for the PhD. course, even though a valid one. So before even taking the application form, you must ask the professors of Coastal Disaster Management department, whether a valid score in JRF or Junior Research Fellowship Environmental Sciences will exempt you from the entrance examination of this PhD. course. If not, then you must clear the entrance examination conducted by the university you will be applying in, to become a part of this course.


Future Job Prospects

  1. You can become a research associate in a project funded by the government. Your job will be to analyze the problem stated in the research project and formulate a solution for that.
  2. You can become an assistant professor in Coastal Disaster Management. After around 10 years of experience, you can become an associate professor.
