A Bachelor’s in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture, a valid GATE score or a valid IMU score depending on the University.
Admission is based on IMU CET score merit
This Master’s course curriculum is designed to provide depth in the subjects covered in the graduate course and thus enable the post graduate students to take up leading positions in the marine and ocean engineering domain.
This is a four semester full time course with one year dissertation in the area of interest. The first year subjects include ocean hydrodynamics, analysis of ocean structures, mechanics of floating bodies, marine acoustics, ocean engineering materials, safety and marine regulations, ocean engineering vehicles and systems, CAD CAM in ship design, coastal engineering, offshore technology, ship design and production, stability of marine structures etc. Students spend an entire year in carrying out dissertation activity in an area of interest which is evaluated based on continuous assessment, report, viva etc.
This is a growing field and has many job opportunities in both government and private sectors either on site, underground or off shore. The post graduates can work in the designing, construction, maintaining of offshore oil structures or underwater vehicles and in research of marine metals and corrosion, environmental protection, global climate monitoring, renewable energy, remote sensing, marine transportation etc.
In case if you are interested in pursuing higher education you can opt for doctoral research and complete your PhD.
