M.D. General Medicine is a post graduation course. The students can enroll in the course after the successful completion of 4 and half years of MBBS course and one year internship. During the entire course, the students will be provided necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to diagnose and treat the diseases with the help of medicines.
- The basic qualification for pursuing M.D General Medicine course is a pass degree in MBBS degree from All India Institute of Medical Sciences or any other University or equivalent qualification recognized by the MCI (Medical Council of India) or any of the State Medical Council.
- A rotating internship of 1 year is required to pursue this course.
- Most institutes prefer candidates with work experience preferably a minimum of 12 months of professional experience.
- Admission to this course is based on the candidate’s performance in a relevant entrance examination.
The duration of M.D General Medicine course is 2 years.
In this course, the candidates will learn how to manage and provide treatment in a cost effective manner. The candidates will learn about the epidemiology, natural history and pathological abnormalities. They will learn about clinical manifestations and principles of management of medical disorders of adults and elderly, affecting any organ system. They will also be provided a thorough knowledge of the practical aspects and methods of prevention and protection from diseases.
After being awarded with the M.D. degree, one can start their career as a Physician. As a Physician, they can detect and treat the common diseases as well as rare diseases. A Physician can handle patients in emergency. They may also go for teaching field where they can teach the students pursuing undergraduate course.
